Job Title: Lab Technician I

Job Description

The Lab Technician I supports day-to-day laboratory operations by maintaining laboratory spaces, equipment, instruments, and supplies, and by performing routine testing and sample preparation in accordance with quality assurance programs and standard operating procedures. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals looking to build hands-on experience in a professional lab environment while contributing to accurate and timely analytical results.

Responsibilities

  • Support laboratory operations through general maintenance of laboratory areas and supply storage spaces.
  • Maintain and handle laboratory equipment, instruments, and supplies in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Use general laboratory methods, techniques, equipment, and instrumentation in compliance with quality assurance programs and standard operating procedures.
  • Retrieve samples from Sample Control for analysis, ensuring proper chain of custody and documentation.
  • Perform sample preparation, including aliquoting samples, spiking and tracing samples, preparing reagents, bottling samples, preparing concentrations, and performing separation and sonication as needed.
  • Set up liquid racks and other lab configurations required for testing procedures.
  • Resolve discrepancies and anomalies to ensure all samples are properly labeled and traceable.
  • Prepare and maintain general laboratory paperwork, including recording analysis results, tracking samples, completing bench sheets, and updating lab logbooks.
  • Accurately document and record data and test results in accordance with laboratory standards.
  • Wash and prepare laboratory glassware and other reusable materials for the next day's samples and testing.
  • Monitor and stock laboratory supplies to ensure adequate inventory for ongoing operations.
  • Work independently to manage assigned tasks and time while collaborating effectively with the laboratory team as needed.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to document results and collaborate with team members.
  • High attention to detail to ensure accurate sample labeling, preparation, and data recording.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to identify and resolve discrepancies or anomalies in samples and documentation.
  • Basic ability to work independently and manage one's time to complete daily laboratory tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of information and techniques used in laboratory testing and sample preparation.
  • Basic ability to analyze data and accurately document and record results in lab paperwork and logbooks.
  • Familiarity with general laboratory methods, techniques, equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Entry-level experience in a laboratory setting, with 0-2 years of relevant experience required.
  • Ability to follow quality assurance programs and standard operating procedures consistently.
  • Qualification to perform duties at a Lab Technician I level.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or coursework in Microbiology, Food Science, or Biology is preferred.
  • Experience with PCR techniques and workflows is a plus.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique and sterile handling procedures is beneficial.
  • Exposure to testing environments and sample analysis processes is advantageous.
  • Interest in developing a career in laboratory science or quality testing.
  • Comfort working with detailed paperwork, bench sheets, and lab logbooks.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, entry-level laboratory position with a consistent daytime schedule. The initial training period lasts approximately four weeks and follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM. After training, the regular schedule transitions to Thursday through Monday, 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, with potential minor variations in specific day combinations as needed. The role is based in a professional laboratory environment that uses standard lab equipment, instruments, and glassware, along with techniques such as PCR, aseptic handling, sonication, and various sample preparation methods. The work involves standing at benches, handling samples, and performing repetitive tasks with a focus on accuracy and cleanliness. Team members follow standard laboratory safety practices and wear appropriate lab attire and personal protective equipment suitable for a testing and sample-handling environment. The culture emphasizes reliability, attention to detail, adherence to procedures, and support for learning and growth in laboratory skills.

This is a Contract position based out of Fresno, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
