Job Title: Lab TechnicianJob Description

This Lab Technician role supports chemical manufacturing operations by performing laboratory testing, quality control activities, and documentation to ensure products meet established specifications. Working under the direction of the Quality Lab & Formulation Manager, the Lab Technician tests a wide range of products, reviews and approves specifications, calibrates laboratory equipment, and maintains a safe, clean, and compliant laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support chemical manufacturing operations by performing routine and non-routine laboratory tests on a variety of products, including lubricants, aerosols, solvents, alkaline cleaners, acidic cleaners, and emulsions.
  • Test raw materials, work-in-process samples, and finished products for characteristics such as specific gravity, color, viscosity, pH, non-volatiles, and other critical quality attributes to ensure products meet approved specifications.
  • Review and approve product and customer specifications against established quality standards, ensuring compliance with internal quality requirements.
  • Record test data accurately, maintain detailed laboratory records, and document any test results that deviate from existing standards and specifications.
  • Release products that meet specifications or participate in investigations for non-conforming results, including preparing non-conformance documentation for management review and action.
  • Maintain and organize quality documents, records, and files, including test data, production data, comparison data, and related information for traceability and reporting.
  • Use laboratory equipment such as scales, calipers, titrators, spectrometers, ovens, and other instruments to perform testing and analysis in accordance with established procedures.
  • Calibrate laboratory equipment or verify equipment calibrations regularly and maintain instruments and the laboratory environment in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Prepare Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and related documentation to support product release and customer requirements.
  • Maintain adequate laboratory supplies and ensure materials, reagents, and consumables are available to support ongoing testing and formulation activities.
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture by following all safety procedures, identifying potential hazards, and supporting initiatives that protect employees and the facility.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment at assigned workstations, including proper handling, storage, and labeling of chemicals and materials.
  • Coordinate multiple testing and project activities simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing and quality environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production and quality personnel, to support responsible decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned by the Quality Lab & Formulation Manager.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 1+ years of experience formulating chemicals.
  • At least 1+ years of laboratory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience performing quality control testing on chemical products such as lubricants, aerosols, solvents, cleaners, and emulsions.
  • Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) or similar quality systems.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks to meet schedule deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and influence others to support sound, responsible decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear documentation and presentations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for data analysis, reporting, and documentation.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and flexibility with respect to job functions and working hours in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds individually and up to 75 pounds in tandem, as necessary.
  • Ability to sit and stand for up to 8+ hours per day in a manufacturing floor and quality laboratory environment.
  • High school diploma combined with 1+ years of chemical formulating experience and/or relevant certifications or accreditations.
  • A.S. or B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biology, or 2+ years of equivalent experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Experience working under GLP environments and related quality standards.
  • Experience in formulating automotive chemicals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with production, quality, and other functional teams.
  • Comfort working with a variety of laboratory instruments, including scales, calipers, titrators, spectrometers, and ovens.
  • Familiarity with preparing Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and other quality documentation.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing and quality laboratory environment that supports chemical production operations. The Lab Technician works both on the manufacturing floor and in a quality laboratory, performing testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products such as lubricants, aerosols, solvents, alkaline cleaners, acidic cleaners, and emulsions. The role involves regular use of laboratory instruments including scales, calipers, titrators, spectrometers, ovens, and other analytical equipment, all maintained in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). The workday typically involves sitting and standing for extended periods, up to 8+ hours, and handling materials that may require lifting up to 25 pounds individually and up to 75 pounds in tandem. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with multiple projects and deadlines occurring simultaneously, requiring flexibility and strong organizational skills. Safety is a core focus, and the Lab Technician follows established safety procedures, uses appropriate personal protective equipment, and helps maintain a clean, orderly, and safe workstation at all times.

This is a Contract position based out of Hernando, MS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $35.00/hr.
