Job Title: Lab Technician II
Job Description
The Lab Technician II performs routine analytical laboratory testing on hydrocarbon- and water-based samples to support research and development, quality objectives, and sales-related activities. This role operates and maintains analytical instruments, executes approved test methods, and provides accurate, timely data and reports to scientists, engineers, and sales teams while upholding strict safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine analytical laboratory testing on hydrocarbon- and water-based samples to support research and development, quality objectives, and sales support activities.
- Assist with the operation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
- Execute analytical methods and experiments in accordance with approved procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), test methods, and safety guidelines.
- Accurately record, analyze, and interpret analytical data, ensuring completeness, traceability, and compliance with established laboratory standards.
- Prepare and maintain clear, well-documented records, reports, and data summaries to support technical reviews and decision-making.
- Communicate analytical results promptly and effectively to scientists, engineers, and sales teams.
- Use laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and other data entry tools to document and manage test results and related information.
- Diagnose anomalies in testing results and instrumentation by applying appropriate analytical techniques and troubleshooting methods.
- Assist other analytical subject matter experts (SMEs) with testing, data review, and instrumentation support as needed.
- Follow all laboratory safety, quality, and housekeeping practices to maintain an organized, compliant, and efficient work environment.
Essential Skills
- 2-4 years of experience in an analytical laboratory environment, performing testing on hydrocarbon- or water-based samples.
- Experience operating, calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting analytical laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Strong understanding of laboratory chemistry principles and analytical techniques.
- Proficiency in following and applying standard operating procedures (SOPs), approved test methods, and safety guidelines.
- Ability to accurately record, analyze, and interpret analytical data while ensuring completeness and traceability.
- Experience with data entry and data analysis in a laboratory setting, including use of laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Verbal and written communication skills to effectively report results and collaborate with scientists, engineers, and sales teams.
- High attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing anomalies in testing results and instrumentation.
- Ability to work independently while also supporting and assisting other analytical subject matter experts.
- Ability to document and maintain clear, well-organized records, reports, and data summaries in compliance with laboratory standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry preferred.
- Combination of relevant education and approximately 5 years of related laboratory experience may be considered in place of a degree.
- Knowledge of hydrocarbon testing methods and handling hydrocarbon- and water-based samples.
- Familiarity with laboratory quality systems and compliance requirements.
- Ability to learn new analytical methods and adapt to updated procedures and instrumentation.
Work Environment
This role is based in a laboratory environment focused on analytical testing of hydrocarbon- and water-based samples. The Lab Technician II works with a variety of analytical instruments and equipment, follows established SOPs and safety protocols, and uses laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for data entry and management. The work requires careful attention to detail, adherence to quality and housekeeping practices, and consistent compliance with safety guidelines to maintain an organized, efficient, and reliable testing facility.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
