Job Description

This role focuses on performing pre- and post-analytical sample processing to support a high-volume, advanced technology laboratory. The Laboratory Sample Processing Technician follows established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensures accurate and timely handling of incoming materials, and maintains clear communication with laboratory and support staff. This position indirectly supports laboratory testing operations without direct, hands-on work with samples, helping to maintain efficient, safe, and high-quality workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre- and post-analytical sample processing activities in accordance with current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Receive incoming boxes and materials, verify contents, and document receipt accurately.
  • Conduct second box checks to confirm correct labeling, contents, and documentation before processing.
  • Monitor alarms and alerts around the laboratory and promptly report or escalate issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Handle and dispose of biohazard materials safely and in compliance with laboratory policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Support laboratory operations indirectly by ensuring that samples and related materials are processed, organized, and routed correctly, without direct hands-on manipulation of samples.
  • Maintain accurate data entry and documentation for sample handling, accessioning, and processing activities.
  • Follow established inventory procedures to support adequate stock of supplies and materials needed for sample processing.
  • Adhere to quality control procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory services and other department personnel to coordinate workflow and resolve issues.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant SOPs and participate in ongoing training as required.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to perform pre- and post-analytical sample processing following detailed SOPs.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail in box receipt, second box checks, and verification of materials.
  • Capability to monitor laboratory alarms and respond or escalate issues appropriately.
  • Knowledge of safe handling and disposal practices for biohazard materials.
  • Basic laboratory support skills, including sample handling and indirect support of laboratory testing.
  • Proficiency in data entry for accessioning, sample processing, and inventory documentation.
  • Ability to follow inventory procedures and support supply management.
  • Understanding of quality control principles in a laboratory or warehouse environment.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with laboratory services and other staff.
  • Required minimum education: high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Preferred education: at least sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university or an Associate Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Preferred experience: one or more years of laboratory experience.
  • Experience with accessioning processes and workflows in a laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with laboratory sample handling and processing procedures.
  • Comfort working with SOP-driven processes and quality-focused environments.
  • Ability to work consistently within defined schedules and shift patterns.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a growing, technology-driven laboratory setting.

Work Environment

This position operates in a combined warehouse and laboratory environment within a large, well-lit, and clean facility. The laboratory uses advanced technology and supports a growing testing volume, creating a dynamic and positive working atmosphere. The role supports laboratory operations indirectly, with no direct hands-on work with samples, while still requiring careful handling of materials and biohazard disposal. The schedule includes two available shifts: Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Team members work in a structured, SOP-driven environment that emphasizes safety, quality, and clear communication.

This is a Contract position based out of Norcross, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
