QUALIFICATIONS

Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, or a related field is an asset.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and customer specifications.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and dimensional inspection techniques.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, and other laboratory measurement equipment.
  • Knowledge of shop floor gauges, gauge setup, and measurement capabilities.
  • Understanding of quality systems, procedures, and inspection documentation.
    Ability to perform first piece approvals, layout inspections, and maintain accurate quality records.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with the capability to coordinate second-shift quality activities and communicate effectively across shifts and departments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and basic computer skills
  • Experience programming and operating Zeiss Calypso CMM systems. (preferred)
  • Experience with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation and requirements. (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodologies. (Preferred)
  • Experience with Gauge R&R studies, gauge calibration, and Layered Process Audits (LPAs). (preferred)
  • Experience in an automotive or precision manufacturing environment. (Preferred)
RESPONSIBILITIES

1.      Write CMM programs for new program launches based on customer specifications provided by MPM engineering department.

2.      Work with Engineering and Set-up department to verify that parts meet customer specifications on new program launches.

3.      Perform CMM or technical layout inspection on all parts as required.

4.      Maintain Q # Log for all complete part inspections.

5.      Ensure first piece approval (FPA) parts are completed in a timely manner.

6.      Organize the Lab and insist Lab housekeeping is maintained.

7.      File all Quality documents in assigned area. Files need to be organized and labeled.

8.      Perform LPA’s and assist with final audits, gage R&R studies and gage calibration.

9.      Setup gauging as required.

10.  Participate in quality problem solving, corrective actions and provide support to other departments.

11.  Communicate internal quality information between shifts.

12.  Communicate line-up from QA supervisor to nightshift personnel.

13.  Oversee completion of all assigned afternoon shift tasks.

14.  Report shift activities to QA supervisor.

15. Follow Housekeeping, Safety (lockout/tagout) & Environmental requirements (recycling, labeling, spills and programs)

16. Continuous improvement ideas in safety, productivity, quality, housekeeping

17. Comply and participate in MPM housekeeping, safety and environmental polices

18. Other duties as defined by your Supervisor.

This position is responsible for supporting manufacturing quality by programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), performing dimensional inspections, and verifying product conformance to customer specifications. This role works closely with Engineering, Set-Up, and Production departments to support new program launches, first piece approvals, quality audits, gauge management, and continuous improvement initiatives. The technician ensures accurate documentation, effective shift communication, and maintains a safe, organized laboratory environment while overseeing assigned second-shift quality activities.  Hours for this position are 4:30pm to 4:00 am M-F and an 8 hour shift if required on the weekend.  Initial training may be a split shift.
