The Position
The Laboratory Technologist I is responsible for performing manual and automated clinical laboratory testing procedures by enzyme immunoassay, immunohematology, nucleic acid, and molecular methods to ensure the safety of all organs and tissues for transplantation. The Laboratory Technologist I functions independently and in a team setting to maintain operational efficiency of the clinical laboratory.
What You’ll Do
- Performing manual and automated laboratory testing procedures in a CAP/ASHI/FDA accredited clinical laboratory
- Testing procedures will include infectious disease testing of blood samples from tissue and organ donors to ensure organs and tissues are safe for transplantation
- Performing DNA isolation and HLA typing in a timely manner
- Routine donor management testing performed for organ donors in the on-site ICU. This includes CBCs, Chemistry including liver and renal function testing, Urinalysis, Coagulation, and blood gases
- Quickly communicating critical results to the medical staff
- Performance of tests to support new research projects and validation of new instruments to further patient care, as assigned
- Report instrument errors, perform minor repairs, and contact service representatives as necessary
- Maintain high quality relations with ICU staff, physicians, tissue team, lab staff, leadership team, customers, and visitors
Schedule -
- Weekend night shift ( 6pm -6am Friday, Satuday, Sunday) Rotating Holidays.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in chemical, physical, biological science, medical technology, or equivalent education
- MLS (ASCP) / MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification or 1 year laboratory experience preferred
- Ability to understand and perform complex procedures and techniques and work with complex instrumentation.
- Skills required for proper specimen and reagent handling, labeling, processing, preparation, transportation and storage necessary.
- Ability to correctly interpret test results, to include identification and correction of discrepancies
- Must be knowledgeable of regulations and comply with them.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service internally and externally.
