Lab/X-ray Technician

Department: Clinical- Lab/X-ray Job Status: Full Time and PRN

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lab/X-ray technician is a member of the care team and works to provide timely and accurate laboratory and diagnostic imaging services. The technician is responsible for maintaining laboratory and imaging equipment, supplies, records, and procedures in accordance with all CLIA, OSHA, COLA, MHSI policy and procedures, and ADH Radiology standards. The Lab/X-Ray technician is expected to work with the Lab/X-Ray Director, COO, Physicians, Mid-Level Providers, and the Clinic Manager to provide quality and efficient lab and imaging services. Travel may be required to acquire and maintain training and/or any applicable license. The Lab/X-ray technician is involved in continuous Quality Improvement practices and measures as set by Mainline Health Systems, Inc. and in which the practice focus is based on a Patient Centered Medical Home model of care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collect viable specimens from the patients, perform all in-house testing, prepare specimens/requisitions for reference testing, and record all lab results in applicable areas.
  • Perform Proficiency Testing (PT) on specimens received from PT provider (API) and maintain documentation. Prepare documentation for scoring after thoroughly reviewing paperwork for clerical errors and for completeness. Send results to the PT Provider in a timely manner.
  • Work with the clinic, patients, providers, and other members of the healthcare team regarding test availability, test collection procedures, and cost effectiveness.
  • Perform Quality Control procedures and maintain proper documentation on all in-house lab tests and equipment in accordance with COLA, OSHA, CLIA, MHSI policy and procedure manual, and other applicable standards.
  • Maintain accurate and legible documentation of quality control and calibration procedures.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of all necessary supplies to ensure workflow.
  • Report in-house lab reports, reference lab reports and radiology reports in a timely manner to the ordering provider.
  • Perform all maintenance and temperature checks as required and document.
  • Maintain all lab logs and records in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Perform EKG's on patients as requested by provider.
  • Perform all in-house x-rays as ordered by provider and maintain logbook. Maintain digital imaging equipment and computers.
  • Maintain the x-ray retake and computer shut down log.
  • Ensure all images are delivered to PACS.
  • Keep monthly Radiologist Reread Log.
  • Performs daily reconciliation of all outstanding labs/DI and notifies and resolves any outstanding orders over 3 days.
  • Specimen collection with label for outside lab testing i.e. Arkansas Pathology, etc.
  • Perform other necessary duties as assigned by the Director of Lab/X-Ray, COO, Providers, and/or Clinic Manager.
  • Obtain necessary Continuing Education hours required to maintain x-ray license.
  • Participates in monthly clinical staff meeting and quality improvement practices.
  • Serve as part of the care team; following and implementing workflows that support and sustain MHSI Patient Centered Medical Home model of care.
  • Willingness to attend and/or complete continuing education related to this position and/or any other topics as deemed necessary to MHSI.
  • Participates in daily team huddles and communicates concerns or necessary information to the care team.
  • Completion of continual job training processes set forth by Mainline Health Systems, Inc.

EVALUATION

The evaluation of work performance is ongoing and is performed by your immediate supervisor (Director of Lab/X-Ray). It includes the specific responsibilities of the position as well as employee attitude and general work ethics and behavior. Formal evaluations are normally performed annually; may be initiated at any other time by the Lab/X-Ray Director or the COO. All evaluations are completed by the Lab-X-Ray Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience is preferred but not necessary.
  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Have the ability to work with staff and patients with warmth and compassion.
  • Have a high school diploma/GED and have good speaking and communication skills.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing to travel to other clinic if assigned and mileage reimbursement will be adjusted.
  • Have a valid and current Arkansas license to perform x-rays.

Note: A one-year temporary license may be issued by the ADH if you apply for a limited license in the state of Arkansas. The employee will have to sit for examination during this period of time. If you are not able to pass the exam during the temporary licensing period, you will have to cease performing x-rays until you have successfully passed the state exam. The temporary license is granted only once per applicant in the state of Arkansas.

  • Current ARRT certification
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

SALARY

The hourly rate for this position is negotiable between the employee and the Lab/Xray Director and will be decided based upon training and experience.
