Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking to hire a motivated Laboratory Assistant I to support research focused on spinal cord injury. In this role, you will assist with animal and human research studies by performing laboratory procedures such as PCR, immunohistochemistry, tissue processing, microscopy, behavioral testing, electrophysiology, and data collection and analysis. You will also help maintain daily laboratory operations by managing supplies, maintaining research records, supporting regulatory compliance, coordinating research activities, and ensuring adherence to laboratory safety standards. This position offers ongoing training and the opportunity to develop a broad range of laboratory and research skills in a collaborative research environment.

Hourly range: $27.04-$32.31

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to carry out survival surgeries, including spinal cord hemisection, lamnimectomies, and viral injections
  • Ability to collect brain and spinal cords from mice for embedding and cryosectioning
  • Ability to handle rodents and perform behavioral studies
  • Previous experience or ability to learn experiments with human subjects
  • Oral and written communication skills to provide information, and update of progress assignments.
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Matlab and database software programs
  • Ability to learn new software programs and laboratory techniques as needed
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment, supplies, and animals to maintain inventory and stock.
  • Knowledge of University purchasing procedures and regulations
  • Possess excellent verbal and written English skills
