Job Title: Report Writer / Laboratory Assistant

Pay rate: $16.00 - $18.00/hr
Work schedule:
1st Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday
2nd Shift: 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM, Monday - Friday
The Laboratory Assistant works closely with senior technical staff to process laboratory samples, execute structural testing procedures, and systematically record and analyze resulting data. This role functions as a Report Writer to compile technical testing documentation for home and specialty product lines. The assistant is responsible for adapting basic test setups, utilizing entry-level laboratory instrumentation, and communicating outcomes clearly to engineers, technicians, and customers to ensure ongoing quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Testing & Sample Management: Process laboratory samples, perform assigned tests using general laboratory tools, and evaluate product performance based on defined test plans and engineering datasheets.
Documentation & Report Writing: Prepare technical charts, graphs, and structured reports to explain test findings. Input, extract, and organize information within internal computer software networks.
Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, structural schematics, electrical wiring diagrams, and formal operational instructions to assemble or adapt basic test configurations.
Data Recording: Meticulously record observed, read, or calculated data onto authorized project datasheets. Meticulously examine measuring instruments and review collected dataset parameters with supervisors.
Equipment & Area Maintenance: Perform routine care, calibration checks, and basic upkeep of designated laboratory testing equipment and immediate workspaces.
Stakeholder Communication: Receive day-to-day work instructions from engineering personnel and communicate setup updates directly to customers to facilitate smooth assessment lifecycles.
Compliance & Security: Maintain absolute adherence to the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital corporate security practices.
Must Have Skills / Requirements
Technical Literacy: Functional ability to read blueprints, schematics, and mechanical layout illustrations.
Computer Skills: Basic computer proficiency including hands-on experience using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and specialized data entry tools.
Core Competencies: High attention to detail, a strong aptitude for continuous operational improvement, and structured data-tracking habits.
Education & Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field required.
Systems Familiarity: A solid foundational understanding of laboratory information systems (LIMS) and standard laboratory machinery or testing equipment.
Term: Scheduled through 12/31 with a strong possibility of extension.
Position Count: 2 open positions (1 dedicated to Home product documentation and 1 dedicated to Specialties product documentation).
