Overview of the Job
The Laboratory Assistant (2nd Shift Cutting Position) works alongside senior laboratory personnel and engineering staff to process samples, execute defined test plans, and analyze and record results. This role involves building and adapting basic test setups, operating designated laboratory tools and equipment, preparing technical data reports, and maintaining equipment and workstations. Working within a regulated environment, the assistant ensures strict adherence to testing datasheets, customer specifications, security protocols, and safety guidelines.
Job Specifications
Primary Responsibilities
• Process laboratory samples, conduct basic tests, and record/analyze performance results according to defined test plans and datasheets.
• Build, adapt, and adjust basic test setups and operate general laboratory equipment and tools as directed.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, operational instructions, and technical datasheets.
• Measure, examine, and cut test samples; read measuring instruments and review collected test data with supervisors and engineers.
• Prepare data sheets, charts, graphs, and technical reports to explain test findings and operational performance.
• Operate computer terminals to input, extract, and manage data within Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and software tools.
• Perform routine maintenance, care, and calibration checks on designated laboratory equipment and maintain clean work areas.
• Communicate professionally with customers during setup and testing to ensure proper sample evaluation.
• Integrate continuous improvement techniques into daily laboratory workflows and methods.
• Strictly follow the corporate Code of Conduct alongside all physical and digital security protocols.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Technical Interpretation: Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical test plans.
• Understanding of basic laboratory information systems, software applications, and general laboratory instrumentation.
• Proficiency in reading precision measuring instruments and performing basic data analysis/calculations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting data to engineering staff and interacting with customers.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational, recording, and documentation skills.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field required.
• Practical understanding or background working with laboratory equipment and data management systems.
