Job Summary:
Collects blood specimens and performs specimen receiving, processing, and handling for laboratory testing. Completes patient registration, test order entry, specimen accessioning, and basic laboratory support functions while ensuring specimen integrity, accurate documentation, and compliance with quality and safety standards.
### Job Requirements
**Education and Work Experience:**
* High School Diploma/GED or equivalent: Required
* Associate's or Technical Degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience): Preferred
* Phlebotomy experience in an acute care or clinical setting: Preferred
**Licenses/Certifications:**
* Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) or equivalent certification: Required
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: Required
### Essential Functions
* Collects blood specimens using appropriate phlebotomy techniques for patients of all ages.
* Receives, labels, accession, processes, and prepares specimens for laboratory testing.
* Verifies specimen integrity and follows established protocols for specimen handling, storage, and transport.
* Performs patient registration, laboratory test order entry, and related computerized documentation.
* Packages and prepares specimens for transport to reference laboratories when required.
* Maintains accurate laboratory records, documentation, and quality control logs.
* Monitors laboratory workflow, prioritizes urgent specimens, and coordinates specimen recollection when necessary.
* Maintains laboratory supplies, equipment, and a clean, safe work environment.
* Communicates laboratory information and assists with specimen inquiries and test order clarification.
* Provides excellent customer service while maintaining patient confidentiality and regulatory compliance.
* Operates basic laboratory equipment according to established procedures.
* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
