Job Description:

TheLaboratory Assistantis responsible for assisting the Medical Oncologistand other healthcare professionals with clinical and administrative duties.Responsibilitiesincludeperforming phlebotomyandlaboratory non-waivedtesting andmaintaining proper documentation andadhering to best clinical practices. 

PrimaryDuties &Responsibilities:

  • Able to perform phlebotomy procedures and handle laboratory specimens appropriately.

  • Centrifuge and aliquot specimen samples based on testing specifications.

  • Send specimens to the appropriate testing facility.

  • Executelaboratorytesting with accuracy and ensure proper reporting in theLaboratory Information System (LIS) andElectronic Medical Record (EMR).

  • Perform Quality Control (QC)prior to running patient samplesandadhere tostandard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Completes instrument maintenance as required by the manufacturer and following the laboratory’s protocol. 

  • Maintainquality assuranceandaccurate logs and records as required for CLIACertification andfollow all other regulatory requirements. 

  • Perform proficiency testing (PT) as required for non-waived testing. 

  • Communicatewith the laboratoryteammembers and practice staffas needed and when appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’sdegreein a medical field is required;bachelor’s degreeispreferred. 

  • Experience performing Point of Care (POC)or LaboratoryTesting,such as blood glucose, CMPs, CBCsis strongly desired. 

Knowledge, Competencies & Skills:

  • Ability to multi-task,beself-motivated, reliable, and accountablein meetingdeadlines.

  • Excellent computer software and data analysis skills.

  • Organized and strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and be detail oriented. 

  • MaintainHIPAA compliance and other requirements outlined by our accreditation and regulatory organizations. 

  • Ability to type a minimum of25words per minute.

Physical Requirements for theJob:

  • Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods. 

  • Involves standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and twisting. 

  • Adjusting visual acuity to distinguish fine details and objects at specific distances. 

  • Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Frequently lift and or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.

Job Type:Full-TimePay Range:$20.00 - $23.00 per hour Actual compensation offered to candidates is based on work experience, education, skill level,and geographic location. Compensation may vary depending on the state or region in which theposition islocated,in accordance withapplicable laws.This position has no close date.
