Position OverviewWheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced
Laboratory Director to lead all clinical laboratory operations for a respected healthcare organization in Memphis, TN. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, quality management, regulatory compliance, budgeting, strategic planning, and staff development while ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory services.
The ideal candidate has progressive laboratory leadership experience in an acute care hospital and a proven ability to lead high-performing laboratory teams while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the daily operations of the Clinical Laboratory.
Oversee laboratory quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
Recruit, hire, coach, mentor, evaluate, and develop laboratory staff.
Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
Oversee laboratory technical development and implementation initiatives.
Support Laboratory Information System (LIS) optimization and integration.
Participate in laboratory equipment evaluation, selection, implementation, and maintenance planning.
Drive continuous process improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and hospital administration to support quality patient care.
Ensure laboratory testing is accurate, timely, and performed in accordance with established standards.
Maintain departmental policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsEducation
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related Health Science field required
Master's degree preferred
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of progressive laboratory management experience in an acute care hospital required
Previous experience leading clinical laboratory operations
Meets CLIA requirements for General Supervisor
Licensure & Certifications
Certification through ASCP, AMT, NCA, or equivalent required
Current state licensure required, if applicable
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Allied Health, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field
Previous Laboratory Director experience
ASCP or NCA certification
Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
Strong knowledge of CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, quality management, budgeting, and laboratory operations
