Responsibilities
DESCRIPTION: The part-time Laboratory Manager, Construction Building Trades, supports the laboratory and workshop operations in support of hands-on instruction. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining tools, equipment, materials, and work areas; managing inventory; ensuring compliance with safety standards; and supporting faculty and students during training activities. The position helps maintain a safe, organized, and industry-relevant learning environment.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Prepares, organizes, and sets up tools, equipment, materials, and work areas for laboratory instruction, demonstrations, and hands-on training activities.2. Manages the safe and proper use of laboratory tools, equipment, and facilities, providing guidance to instructors and students and ensuring compliance with program procedures and safety standards.3. Coordinates and supports construction-related projects, including material preparation, fabrication activities, and other instructional construction tasks.4. Maintains laboratory, workshop, and storage areas in a clean, organized, secure, and operational condition.5. Conducts routine inspections and performs basic maintenance, cleaning, and servicing of tools, equipment, and machinery to ensure readiness for instructional use.6. Manages inventory of tools, equipment, and materials, including tracking usage, maintaining records, and coordinating replenishment and storage.7. Enforces laboratory safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the identification and reporting of safety hazards.8. Secures and stores tools, equipment, materials, and supplies, ensuring proper accountability and protection of College assets.9. Coordinates the preparation of materials, equipment, and workstations for practical examinations, demonstrations, special projects, and other instructional activities.10. Performs other duties as may be required or assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:1. Vocational Technical Certificate or Associate's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in HVAC/Refrigeration, welding, plumbing, electrical, building construction, industrial/plant technology, engineering technology or other related training.2. Five (5) years of field experience in HVAC/Refrigeration, welding, plumbing, electrical, building construction, industrial/plant technology, engineering technology or other related training.OR 1. Vocational Technical Certificate or Associate's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in HVAC/Refrigeration, welding, plumbing, electrical, building construction, industrial/plant technology, engineering technology or other related training.2. Holds a state mechanical/trade license in discipline, HVAC/Refrigeration, welding, plumbing, electrical, building construction, industrial / plant technology, engineering technology or other related training.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:1. Teaching experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:1. Knowledge of construction building trades tools, equipment, materials, and safe work practices.2. Knowledge of occupational safety standards and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).3. Skill in maintaining, inspecting, and performing basic repairs on construction-related tools and equipment.4. Ability to manage laboratory inventories, maintain accurate records, and monitor equipment and material usage.5. Ability to identify safety hazards and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe learning environment.6. Ability to provide technical guidance and support to faculty and students during laboratory and hands-on training activities.7. Excellent planning and organizing skills; ability to anticipate outcomes.8. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.9. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.10. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.11. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.12. Committed to working in a multicultural environment.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:1. Work is performed primarily in a laboratory, workshop, and construction training environment where exposure to tools, equipment, machinery, materials, dust, noise, and safety hazards may occur.2. Hours will vary (days, evenings, weekends).3. Must wear protective gear when required.4. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform physical activities associated with preparing and maintaining laboratory and workshop areas.5. Ability to push, pull of equipment, carts, materials, and other items used in laboratory and workshop operations.6. Ability to lift, carry, move, and position tools, equipment, supplies, and construction materials of varying weights. 7. Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.8. Requires manual dexterity and the ability to safely operate, handle, and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery.9. May require exposure to dust, noise, fumes, and other conditions associated with construction and laboratory environments.PHYSICAL ABILITY ASSESSMENT:Per College Policy 1.020 and 2.020, and College Procedure 2.0350:1. Pay Benefits and Work Schedule
$21.66 hourly up to 26 hours per week.THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION.
