Advertising/Posting Title Laboratory Research Technician Posting Summary

The Laboratory Research Technician will provide technical, organizational, and analytical support to a translational research laboratory investigating how effector memory T cells activate glial cells in the brain to cause tissue damage, and how this process can be modulated for neuroprotection and remyelination. Work with animal models as well as advanced in vitro platforms to uncover fundamental mechanisms of neurodegeneration. Assist with cell culture, molecular assays, imaging, and data analysis while helping to troubleshoot experiments, support undergraduate researchers, perform general laboratory maintenance, and advance the lab's broader scientific goals.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelor's degree in biology or related life science major and background in inorganic/organic chemistry and biochemistry. Prior experience with sterile work, DNA isolation, pipetting (including low volume down to 0.1 microliter), preparing solutions and reagents, keeping a laboratory notebook (both paper and electronic), and following laboratory protocols and procedures. The successful candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Office/Excel and statistical analysis software including the R-package. They will also possess the ability to work in teams, troubleshoot problems, and to function independently when performing basic tasks.

Desirable Qualifications

Prior experience supervising and mentoring undergraduate students in a laboratory setting. Prior experience with electronic medial record system Epic for purposes of human patient specimen collection linkage. Effective verbal and writing skills.
