ASED Laboratory Supervisor - Vital Tears

Tuesday-Saturday, 9:00am-5:00pm | Full-time + great benefits


Position Purpose:

This mission-centered role partners with the Laboratory Manager to support efficient daily laboratory operations through process improvement and staff development. The position serves as a trusted resource, supports team training, and promotes a positive work environment by modeling the values of Saving Sight.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and support all roles within the ASED division of laboratory operations and serve as the primary point of contact for daily operational issues and frontline staff support.
  • Supervise daily team operations by monitoring KPIs, productivity, and workload distribution to ensure efficiency, equitable task assignment, and alignment with departmental priorities.
  • Adjust daily workloads and staffing assignments based on operational demands and observed trends to meet current and anticipated business needs.
  • Monitor inventory levels across work cells and the stockroom and communicate needs or issues to Laboratory Manager to support operational readiness.
  • Support the implementation and adherence to departmental work instructions, process documentation, and operational improvements.
  • Uphold quality standards and support regulatory compliance by ensuring timely submission of Quality Assurance non-conformances and accurate documentation of lab processes, equipment, and operational records.
  • Support regulatory compliance through participation in training, competency assessments, and documentation requirements.
  • Support the department training program by coordinating training activities andmaintainingaccurate documentation and sign-offs.
  • Partner with trainers and subject matter experts to support staff proficiency with laboratory and database systems.
  • Lead and support daily huddles, weekly staff meetings, and bi-weekly one-on-one (O3) meetings.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment that reflects the organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Support the Laboratory Manager by providing input on performance feedback, recognition, and corrective actions.
  • Partner with Human Resources and management to support recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of new team members.
  • Develop and maintain staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and manage employee timekeeping, attendance, time sheet approval, and PTO monitoring.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Manage stress effectively whileexercising sound judgment. 
  • Think strategically and plan work to achieve goals and objectives. 
  • Work independently, with limited direction, and collaboratively in a team environment. 
  • Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.  
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, general database functionality, and web-based applications.
  • Ability to manage time effectively while overseeing multiple tasks, priorities, and staff needs.
  • Thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and best practices for maintaining sterility in laboratory and clean room environments.

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in medical, surgical, or laboratory background.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination, or documented declination is required before performing duties.  

Preferred Requirements:

  • Prior management or supervisory experience with demonstrated coaching, employee development, and training experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Perform prolonged computer-based tasks, including data entry, documentation, and electronic communication.
  • Sustain focus and attention to detail for extended periods.
  • Capability to extend arms and maintain extended position while handling materials and keeping  proper posture. 
  • Sit or stand for extended periods while performing detailed and repetitive tasks. 
  • Perform continuous fine hand manipulation requiring precision, coordination, and a high degree of manual dexterity. 
  • Use of foot pedals as required to operate equipment.  
  • Lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds

Working Environment:

  • Work performed in both standard office setting and a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Position includes frequent interruptions and shifting priorities
