About this Job

Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Technician 1-3 to join our team! We are a 24-bed acute care critical access hospital serving the Florida Parishes region of Southeast Louisiana. We offer a wide range of services, including general surgery and a 24-hour emergency department. At Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center, we are able to bring you a wide range of services close to home, provided by a network of board certified physicians. The incumbent will perform a wide variety of advanced level clinical diagnostic without direct supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of general laboratory experience; OR

Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory or medical laboratory technology program; OR

An associate or bachelor's degree in medical technology, nursing, clinical laboratory science, or a biological, physical, or chemical science; OR

Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician or Laboratory Animal Technologist by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in any of the biological, physical, chemical, or agricultural sciences will substitute for one year of experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Positions in Human Testing Laboratory environments must be licensed to practice as either a Laboratory Assistant or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician in the State of Louisiana as required by Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Personnel Law R.S. 37:1311-1329 and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Performs advanced diagnostic laboratory tests in the following areas: Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Bacteriology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Parasitology and Serology. Perform tests without direct supervision: Perform laboratory tests on patients of all ages. responsible for working all shifts.
  • Performs ABO, Rh and routine screenings, Performs all Cytological procedures. Preform gram stains on cultures. Performs fine needles aspirations for Histology; having knowledge of tissue preservation and respond to all other pathology questions in the absence of the Pathologist. Assist the Laboratory Information Specialist. Perform CAP inspections as required for Accreditation.
  • Performs phlebotomies to collect blood samples for testing, Perform phlebotomies on patients of all ages. Train subordinate and/or new personnel. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Stock and rotate supplies for laboratory.
  • Attend Educational In-Services, Mandatory Training and Annual Review as required by hospital policy and procedure, or deemed necessary by the supervisor.
  • Any and all other duties assigned to include ensuring departmental coverage.

About this job: The Laboratory Technician 1-3 is a Career Progression Group (CPG). The level of hire depends on the level of experience. Work Location: This Laboratory Technician 1-3 is located in the Pathology Department.

Work Hours: Shift will be determined by the department Manager.

Shift Differentials: In addition to Base Pay, Shift Pay and Certification pay is included only when working.

Rate of Pay:

  • Laboratory Technician 1 $15.30/hour
  • Laboratory Technician 2 $16.37/hour
  • Laboratory Technician 3 $17.52/hour
