What we want

The laboratory technician is a staff member who will work primarily with Senior Professor as well as Image Analysis Laboratory staff to collect and analyze digital imaging data obtained from optical and electron microscopy instrumentation and assist with planning of imaging experimental data collections. Images will be primarily collected from fixed and live cells for processing/analyzing functional imaging data.

Multiple structural and functional endpoints in live cells will be measured/analyzed with functional fluorescence probes or organelle specific labels to evaluate dynamic processes in living, fixed and/or processed cells and tissues analyzed with imaging processing tools involving a variety measurements such as organelle size, object tracking, 3D measurement, pattern recognition, and functional assessments of physiological endpoints using fluorescence probes of cellular function.

A goal is to begin exploring label-free phenotypic assays in cells and deep learning models to predict/simulate fluorescent probes directly from unstained cells.

Responsibilities

Data Intake

  • Contributes to microscopic image acquisition and interpretation of biomedical samples.

  • Image processing and computer analysis of high-resolution images obtained from electron and optical microscopes.

  • Performs computer data entry and analysis using statistical software.

Data for Publication

  • Analyzes data, prepares statistical analyses, and summarizes data for use in submission to journals and other publications

  • Contributes to the writing of methods and results for publication of manuscripts in scientific journals

Training

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Trains other research support staff and provides oversight for the management of laboratory functions such as safety issues, inventory, ordering supplies and equipment, and general lab cleanup as appropriate.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree in Life Science or Computer Science

  • One year of lab or related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some prior experience in image analysis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of imaging, image processing and analysis software.
