Laboratory Technician

PURPOSE:The Laboratory Technician analyzes samples and reports results. The position relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform analyses per Blended Products methodology or Standard Operating Procedures on all samples submitted to lab, including but not limited to:

Appearance (Clarity) and odorColor evaluationRefractive IndexDensityDemulsibilitySpatter / Crackle testFoam Sequences I, II, & IIIViscosity (Manual or Automatic by Cannon SimpleVis or CAV)Cold Crank ViscosityElemental Analysis by iCAP ICP or XRFTAN and TBN by AutotitratorFTIRParticle CountBrookfield ViscosityFlash PointPour Point(Calumet Packaging Only) -High Temp High Shear(Royal Purple Only)

Log samples into LIMSReport data accurately and in a timely fashionApprove Production, Bulk, and Blend Samples when they are within QC SpecificationsOperate and maintain instruments and equipment per written proceduresSample raw material drums and totesPull and test flush tote samplesMaintain clean laboratory glassware and surroundingsFile and organize retain samplesRun and Troubleshoot issues with instrument check standardsHelp perform general instrument maintenance / repairOther duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:

College degree or minimum 6 months industrial lab experienceMust read, write, and speak EnglishComfortable with metric system, calculations, and unit conversionsFlexible and adaptable in ever-changing work environment

COMPETENCIES:
