Laboratory Technician I - Blytheville, AR
LOCATION: Blytheville - Arkansas - USA
DEPARTMENT: QUALITY
Purpose:
Provides technical support for the Hickman Laboratory by developing, maintaining, and improving laboratory equipment, sample preparation processes, and testing practices. Ensures laboratory activities are performed following best practices, quality management standards, and safety requirements while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining appropriate inventory of laboratory consumables.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develops, maintains, and improves laboratory equipment, including planning and coordinating preventive maintenance activities with internal maintenance teams and external service providers.
- Develops, maintains, and updates laboratory procedures and processes, including preparing and revising PRDs, OPPs, and other controlled documentation.
- Coordinates the procurement and inventory management of laboratory consumable materials to ensure uninterrupted laboratory operations.
- Develops and implements programs and best practices for laboratory sample preparation and testing.
- Maintains the Laboratory Quality Management System (QMS), including laboratory KPIs, controlled documentation, and compliance with Tenaris document retention requirements.
- Leads and supports continuous improvement projects to enhance laboratory performance, efficiency, and reliability.
- Ensures compliance with applicable quality, safety, and laboratory standards for all laboratory activities.
- Collaborates with Operations, Quality, Metallurgy, Maintenance, and Process Technology teams to support production and quality objectives.
- Assists in the resolution of technical issues related to laboratory equipment, testing processes, and sample preparation.
- Complies with Tenaris policies, procedures and management standards, and ensures adherence with all laws and regulations that apply to the area of responsibility.
- Protects from damage, theft or misuse of the facilities, equipment and other physical resources assigned to his/her area.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Three (3) or more years of experience in a materials testing laboratory within a manufacturing environment, including experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Strong knowledge of materials testing methods, laboratory best practices, and laboratory KPI development.
- Experience with CNC programming and tooling applications.
- Experience managing external suppliers, service providers, and procurement processes, including purchase requisitions (PRs) and purchase orders (POs).
- Familiarity with API, ASTM, ISO, NACE, and CSA standards.
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications and computer systems in a networked environment.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, make sound decisions within established guidelines, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrated leadership, resource coordination, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
