Job Description

The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for performing various microbiological analyses on environmental samples received by the laboratory. The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for daily data generation that meets RIA, client, and QA/QC requirements. The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for completing daily, weekly, monthly, and annual laboratory maintenance and QA/QC requirements. The Laboratory Technician I should have and maintain current knowledge of commonly used laboratory practices, procedures, and methodologies.

Primary Duties / Essential Functions

• Follow Standard Operating Procedures relevant to these essential functions, this job description, and other duties as assigned.
• Complete an Initial Demonstration of Capability (IDC) prior to performing analytical testing on samples and complete a Continuing Demonstration of Capability (CDC) annually thereafter.
• Maintains and promotes clean, organized, and functional work areas including but not limited to, sample storage and hazardous waste disposal areas.
• Effectively communicates any issues, concerns, or updates to Team Lead and/or Laboratory Manager.
• Adhere to R.I. Analytical's Chemical Hygiene Plan, Code of Ethics, and other policies defined in the Quality Manual and Employee Handbook.
• Other duties as assigned by Team Lead, Laboratory Manager, and/or Laboratory Director.
• Coverage of second shift, weekend, and holiday shifts required as needed.

Job Requirements

Education Requirement and Prior Work Experience

• Associate Degree; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 (MS Word, Excel, Teams).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in the English Language.
• Must be flexible with time and able to adjust and adapt to a changing work environment.

• Communicate with management and others in a courteous and professional manner.
• Ability to self-direct and work well with limited supervision.

This job operates in a laboratory setting. This role routinely uses chemicals with known hazardous characteristics and handles samples of unknown toxicity. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, and photocopiers. This role routinely moves objects weighing up to 50lbs.

Additional Information

Pay Rate: $20-$22 an hour, based on experience.

Background Checks: R.I. Analytical, Inc., may perform a thorough background check of its employees, including a Consent Based Social Security Number Verification (CBSV), and a criminal history background check. Employees will be asked to sign an acknowledgement of this background check at the start of the process.
