Laboratory Technician II - Surgical Pathology

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician II to: under general supervision, performs difficult technical procedures and allied duties related to the function of a service laboratory; maintains laboratory area and equipment. Performs a variety of laboratory tasks related to processing specimens, computer/clerical duties, routine lab maintenance, and supply distribution. This position will be Monday - Friday, 0930-1830.

Duties to include:

• Accessions, handles, and triages specimens for Surgical Pathology.
• Uses laboratory equipment.
• Demonstrates effective communication skills.
• Follows department and laboratory policies.
• Prepares reagents and chemicals.
• Performs other projects and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

• High school plus two years of related laboratory experience, including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or
• Certified laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, or
• Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.

Desirable Qualifications

• MLA(ASCP) certification or eligible.
• Biological science coursework, i.e., Anatomy, Biology, etc.
• Medical Terminology
