The Laboratory Technician will provide comprehensive laboratory testing and specimen collection services at the Blackfeet Service Unit. The role involves performing diagnostic testing, ensuring accuracy of results, and maintaining compliance with accreditation standards and federal healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities
" Perform laboratory testing across multiple disciplines including clinical chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, serology, urinalysis, blood bank, and molecular diagnostics
" Collect and prepare specimens using venipuncture, capillary puncture, and arterial methods
" Prepare patients and collect non-blood specimens such as urine and stool samples
" Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including analyzers, microscopes, and centrifuges
" Perform and document quality control, calibration, and maintenance procedures
" Analyze, review, verify, and accurately report patient test results
" Ensure compliance with laboratory standards, safety protocols, and infection control practices
" Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation in accordance with facility policies
" Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure timely and accurate diagnostic services
Minimum Qualifications
" Associate degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field from an accredited institution
" Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from a recognized body (e.g., ASCP, AMT)
" 2 3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
" Phlebotomy experience required
" Proficiency in major laboratory areas:
Clinical Chemistry
Hematology
Coagulation
Blood Bank
Serology
Microbiology
Urinalysis
Molecular Testing
" Familiarity with Client systems such as RPMS or VistA (preferred)
Work Schedule
" Hospital setting requires 24/7 coverage, including weekends and holidays
" Outpatient clinic hours: Monday Friday, 7:00 AM 7:00 PM (excluding federal holidays)
" Schedule coordinated with Laboratory Supervisor
Additional Requirements
" Overtime is not permitted unless officially authorized
" Must maintain punctuality and minimal unscheduled absences
" Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment with attention to detail
" Strong communication and teamwork skills
Compliance & Standards
" Adhere to all applicable federal regulations and contract requirements
" Maintain compliance with HIPAA, PPE, infection control, and safety standards
" Follow all documentation, security, and professional conduct guidelines
Reporting & Deliverables
" Maintain accurate logs of hours worked
" Provide necessary documentation for invoicing and reporting
" Ensure continuous service through proper communication of absences or scheduling changes
