Physical Requirements

Lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects up to 50lbs. Sitting/standing for extended periods of time as well as extended periods of repetitive motion and general laboratory duties required as part of this position.

Shift

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday, some weekends

Job Summary

The Chattopadhyay Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine is seeking a highly organized and motivated Laboratory Technician Senior to support our research program in antiviral innate immunity and inflammatory signaling.

The successful candidate will play a central role in the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, including supporting laboratory personnel with research experiments, managing laboratory organization and supplies, coordinating procurement and inventory, and maintaining research mouse colonies. The position will also perform mammalian cell culture and routine molecular and biochemical experiments and assist with animal and viral infection studies. We are seeking an individual who is dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys working collaboratively to support multiple research projects. The position provides an opportunity to contribute to NIH-funded research in virology, immunology, and molecular and cellular biology.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Laboratory organization and inventory management; mammalian cell culture; basic molecular and biochemical techniques; mouse handling and colony management; accurate record keeping; procurement and ordering; Microsoft Office/Excel; strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No Preferred Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related field with relevant laboratory research experience. Experience with mammalian cell culture and standard molecular or biochemical laboratory techniques is preferred. Experience with laboratory organization, procurement/inventory management, and mouse colony management or animal research is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, dependability, and the ability to coordinate multiple laboratory activities and effectively support research personnel.
