Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and reliable laboratory data to onsite researchers while supporting routine and non-routine laboratory operations. This role provides direct technical support for drilling fluids and cement testing, performs quality assurance testing on company products, and assists researchers with additive selection and fluid design.

 

Job Description

  • Perform quality assurance testing on company products using established laboratory procedures.
  • Set up, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate specialized laboratory equipment, including High Temperature High Pressure (HTHP) testing equipment, following manufacturer specifications with limited supervision.
  • Conduct routine and non-routine laboratory testing for drilling fluids and cement systems, making necessary adjustments to test methods or parameters based on observed results.
  • Accurately record laboratory data, prepare technical reports, and maintain laboratory databases.
  • Prepare chemical samples and test materials for laboratory evaluations.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment remains clean, operational, and properly maintained through routine calibration and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Monitor laboratory inventory and ensure proper disposal of laboratory waste in accordance with company procedures and environmental regulations.
  • Perform regular laboratory audits to verify compliance with quality standards, operating procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Assist Design Engineers, Technical Engineers, and Product Champions by providing laboratory testing, technical data, and support for product development and fluid design.
  • Ensure all testing and reporting deliverables are accurate, complete, and submitted within required timelines.
  • Perform risk assessments prior to each task to identify and mitigate potential safety and quality risks.
  • Participate in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Quality initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and strictly adhere to company HSE policies and procedures.
  • Maintain all required safety certifications and training.

 

Skills Required

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in an HTHP Cementing Laboratory.
  • Experience performing drilling fluids and cement testing.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with data entry, laboratory databases, and report preparation.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory testing procedures for drilling fluids and cement systems.
  • Working knowledge of High Temperature High Pressure (HTHP) testing equipment.
  • Ability to interpret test results and adjust testing parameters as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, reliable data.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant laboratory environment.

 

Education

  • Minimum: Associate degree in a technical or scientific discipline (2-year degree preferred).

 

Pay Rate

  • $22 - $25 per hour (Compensation is offered based on experience, skills, and market factors)
