Job Description:

Per Diem (As Needed

3pm - 11pm

Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing initial and refresher training for proper handling and disposal.

Performs pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, including equipment maintenance, function checks, inventory control, specimen collection, biological specimen processing, cleaning and disinfection, quality control, and calibration.

Participates in proficiency testing, adhering to federal and state regulations as well as hospital policies.

Performs post-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, including reporting results and providing technical and support information for all age groups.

Provides leadership and mentoring to technicians and support staff, resolves customer service issues, and supports education for clinical staff.

Performs clerical and receptionist duties to support department operations.

Maintains workspaces in a neat, organized, and properly supplied manner, storing and safeguarding documentation and paperwork.

Facilitates workflow and participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities, including evaluating new equipment and procedures.

Adheres to the hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, protecting patient information confidentiality.

Follows safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, and demonstrates understanding of the Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies.

Conducts all expected tests and analytical procedures efficiently and accurately according to hospital procedures, performance standards, and competency standards.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Technical skills and aptitudes related to the laboratory testing, procedures, and processes performed in the department or work area assigned.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written English with patients, staff, partners, and customers of varied backgrounds in a respectful, effective, and professional manner.
  • Ability to read text and numbers in English, and to comprehend, measure, reason, match, and problem solve under supervision. Ability to apply accurately learned computer-related applications and programs, including using electronic keyboards and other peripheral devices.
  • Mature judgment and the ability to handle confidential information within healthcare organization guidelines and applicable regulations.

Education:

  • Associate [Required]

Field of Study:

  • In Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent term
  • Completion of a clinical internship in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent program
  • Post-secondary education with a concentration in the aforementioned subject matters, Chemical Science or Biologic Science or Healthcare-related field

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT [Required] OR Clinical Laboratory Technol (TN [Required]
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLTAMT [Preferred]
  • Basic Life Support (BLS [Preferred]
