LABORER
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
SUMMARY: Performs general unskilled manual work. Duties include cleaning various types of structures, buildings and grounds; loading and unloading of material and heavy mechanical equipment. Maintain landscape elements. Assist skilled laborers with a wide range of duties, and mixes and stirs concrete. Performs a variety of other heavy manual work in connection with the maintenance and construction of streets, transfer stations and related structures. Use of various hand tools such as shovel, pick, rake, broom, and light power equipment, etc. Expected to be available for winter operations and general storm operations utilizing a commercial driver license.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work in all elements of weather. Work involves but not limited to stooping, bending, climbing, lifting that includes heavy articles, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires High School graduate or GED with sufficient knowledge and experience in areas of need. Requires Valid Connecticut Commercial Driver's License (CDL) that includes the minimum Sub-Classification "B" and valid CDL Medical Card. Requires effective communication skills and ability to understand and carry out simple oral instructions. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions and perform strenuous activities.

WAGES: Starting at $26.79/hr. Increases at 6 months to $28.39/hr., increases at 1 year to $29.23/hr.
