Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated Land Surveyor Assistant to support field survey crews in City/Location, doing a variety of renewable energy, infrastructure, construction, boundary, topographic, and ALTA survey projects. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, values accuracy and teamwork, and is eager to build hands-on experience with modern survey technology under the direction of experienced survey professionals.

3-4 weeks on-site / 1 week off

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Crew Chief and senior surveyors with daily field operations on diverse project sites.
  • Operate and support setup, calibration, and maintenance of surveying equipment, including Trimble total stations, GPS/GNSS units, levels, data collectors, LiDAR scanners, laser scanners, and related field tools.
  • Accurately collect, record, and maintain field data, survey notes, data points, sketches, and equipment logs.
  • Perform field surveying tasks such as construction layout, topographic surveys, boundary delineations, ALTA survey support, utility locating, and feature location.
  • Set wooden stakes, iron rods, and survey markers; cut and clear brush or trees as needed to complete field assignments.
  • Gather geospatial data using GPS systems and 3D scanning technology for mapping, drafting, analysis, and project documentation.
  • Assist with preparing sketches, schematics, CAD drawings, maps, reports, and legal descriptions using tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson, Revit, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or similar software.
  • Protect, clean, and maintain survey equipment, vehicles, hand tools, and field gear to ensure safe and reliable performance.
  • Follow company Safety and Quality Management policies and help maintain a safe, professional work environment.
  • Provide excellent service and clear communication to internal teams, clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including THC, required.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements for assigned projects, including traveling renewable energy assignments when applicable.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of conditions, including construction sites, remote areas, rural locations, and urban environments.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, walk long distances over uneven terrain, and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, organizational skills, and commitment to quality work.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a field crew.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of progressive experience in land surveying preferred; motivated entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with Trimble surveying equipment, total stations, GPS/GNSS systems, levels, laser scanners, and data collectors preferred.
  • Experience or knowledge of utility locating, construction layout, topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, boundary surveys, or legal descriptions is a plus.
  • Proficiency or exposure to AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson, Revit, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or similar drafting and mapping software preferred.
  • Comfortable using hand tools and field equipment safely in active outdoor work environments.
