Summary of Position:

Under the supervision of a responsible supervisor or the direction of a higher land classification or Land Surveyor, the Land Technician performs technical field and office support work related to land surveying, land rights, and property documentation. This position serves as a member of a survey party, conducting precise measurements using conventional and advanced surveying equipment, interpreting legal property descriptions, performing survey calculations, and researching title and boundary information. The Land Technician prepares maps, profiles, and drawings from field and office data and assists in assembling, processing, and correcting right-of-way and land records, including easement documentation, permits, and quitclaims. The role may involve operating a survey vehicle, inspecting properties, investigating encroachments, and preparing clear reports and correspondence. Assignments may include duties similar to those of a Senior Land Technician, typically of lesser complexity, to support skill development and progression within the classification.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of an exempt supervisor is:

  • Performing routine work as a member of a survey party; making precise survey measurements using conventional and state of the art surveying instruments; interpreting legal descriptions of real property; making and interpreting survey calculations; researching, analyzing, checking, and adjusting survey data; researching title and compiling evidence and documentation for boundary determination. May be required to operate the survey vehicle.
  • Preparing maps from field notes, office data, and title searches for condemnation proceedings, obtaining rights-of-way, purchasing land, obtaining government permits, and obtaining leases and other land documents. Plotting plan profiles, road cross-sections, topography, contours, and special drawings. May be required to check mathematical computations of others.
  • Assembling information for, and processing, clearing, and correcting rights-of-way and land matters. This work includes such duties as preparing legal descriptions of real property; preparing all routine documents necessary for the acquisition of easements by the Company ; processing necessary forms for the procuring of permits; preparing and processing quitclaims; securing signatures; securing permits; inspecting property; preliminarily investigating encroachments; and preparing clear and concise reports and correspondence.
  • Also performs duties substantially identical to those of a Senior Land Technician, but normally on assignments requiring less experience, in order to qualify for promotion to Senior Land Technician.
  • This position will or may require driving. 
Qualifications:
  • Two years of Civil Engineering or Survey Technology training or the equivalent in education and/or experience in surveying of land and title work.
  • Must have a valid California driver's license.
  • The physical ability to do field survey work.
  • Position requires travel throughout the PG&E territory.

Hourly Range: $43.58/hr to $61.97/hr
