Overview

Join our team as a Landfill Laborer and be part of something bigger!

In this role, youll play a vital role in keeping our site safe, clean, and efficient. Youll direct on-site traffic, help protect the environment by screening waste for hazardous materials, and operate a variety of equipment including pickups, tractors, mowers, and vacuum trailers. From hand-picking litter to maintaining the shop, fences, and buildings, every day brings new challenges and opportunities. This position is scheduled from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and includes a rotating Saturday shift.

Responsibilities

What youll be doing:

  • Guiding commercial and public vehicles safely through the landfill site, ensuring proper dumping locations are followed and minimizing traffic congestion.
  • Visually inspecting loads to identify and remove hazardous, restricted, or prohibited materials before they reach the active face.
  • Using equipment such as pickup trucks, tractors, mowers, vacuum trailers, and litter vacuums to support daily operations and site maintenance.
  • Picking up scattered litter by hand or with tools to keep the landfill grounds, fencing, and surrounding areas clean and compliant with regulations.
  • Assisting with general upkeep, including minor repairs, cleaning, and organizing tools and materials around the landfill facilities.
  • Working in the diversion area to safely separate tires from rims using a tire machine for proper recycling and material recovery.
  • Collecting and organizing scrap metal for transport to recycling facilities, ensuring proper separation and load safety.
  • Inspecting the green waste drop-off zone to remove unacceptable materials (such as plastics or treated wood), keeping the area clean and contamination-free.
  • Assisting with lifting and loading mattresses into trailers for off-site recycling, helping divert materials from the landfill and supporting sustainability goals.

  • One (1) year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
