ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Solid Waste Department is responsible for the proper management of solid waste generated in Deschutes County. The Department operates Knott Landfill and four rural transfer stations where the public, contractors and waste collection companies deliver waste for disposal at Knott Landfill in Bend.

ABOUT THE JOB:
As a Landfill Site Attendant, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the safe and efficient operation of what is considered one of the best landfill operations in the State of Oregon. Landfill Site Attendants work directly with our customers assessing and collecting fees, monitoring customer safety and assisting in control of customer movement in a busy environment. Our Landfill Site Attendants are the primary contact that the community has with the Department and the impressions from that interaction reflect on the quality of our operations and the positive customer experience.
Knott Landfill and our rural transfer stations are a dynamic work environment where conditions often change throughout the workday. Landfill Site Attendants work a 4-day/10-hour schedule. While individual employee work schedules vary due to the nature of our facility operating schedules, all employees get at least two days off in a row during their work week. Must be able to work additional hours and a flexible schedule when needed, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, to meet the needs of the department and emergencies.

Compensation
$3,892.94 to $4,968.50 per month for a 173.33-hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately.
This position may also be eligible for a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) in FY27 pending budget adoption by the Board of County Commissioners.

Driving is a requirement for this position. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon drivers license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable drivers license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.
