Job Summary

Journey-level Landman position responsible for independently performing broad land work, including obtaining and evaluating land data, securing examinations of title, resolving defects, settling damage claims, and supporting acquisition, development, divestiture, and lease maintenance activities. This role is fully competent in standard land assignments, demonstrates solid negotiating ability, assists in developing leasing strategies, and applies standard land principles and techniques to assignments of broad scope while working under moderate supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct land work, including obtaining, analyzing, and interpreting land data, records, titles, abstracts, leases, and related instruments to determine ownership, burdens, leasehold status, and development constraints.
  • Secure examinations of title, identify and resolve title defects, and support the settlement of routine to moderately complex damage claims and curative matters.
  • Prepare recommendations on dry hole contributions, farm-ins, farm-outs, trades, and other exploration and development activities, using sound judgment within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Draft, review, and revise commonly used land agreements, amendments, and correspondence, including leases, assignments, consents, surface use agreements, and related instruments.
  • Assist in developing leasing strategies, evaluating bids, and supporting due diligence for acquisitions, divestitures, and routine buying programs.
  • Maintain producing leases, obligation calendars, and co-owner relationships by tracking critical dates, monitoring compliance, and coordinating follow-up across internal stakeholders.
  • Work with brokers, outside counsel, and internal partners to resolve lease title, regulatory, and transactional issues, escalating unusually complex matters when appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and industry counterparts, maintain key contacts within the area of responsibility, and contribute as a strong team player on cross-functional assignments.

  • Has broad exposure to and strong understanding of commonly used oil and gas agreements with the ability to develop deeper expertise in select areas.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of lease forms, complex lease provisions, and applicable federal and state regulations, with the ability toselect the appropriate form for each situation.
  • Proactively explores alternatives, anticipates realistic problems, and proposes sound conclusions when addressing land and commercial issues.
  • Maintains critical industry contacts, stays current on industry activity, and is viewed by peers as a team player and effective link to industry counterparts.
  • Conveys ideas clearly and accurately, presents information in an organized manner, listens thoughtfully, and uses questions to obtain needed information.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Land Management, Energy Management, Business Administration, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Landman.
  • An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Permian Basin experience

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
