ABOUT THE POSITION
Landscape Architect Project Manager – Richmond, Williamsburg, or Virginia Beach, VA
We are currently seeking a Landscape Architect Project Manager to join our growing team in Richmond, Williamsburg, or Virginia Beach, Virginia. This is a unique opportunity to take on meaningful project work across a wide range of markets, including coastal resiliency, real estate, transportation, institutional, and National Park Service projects. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader who thrives in leading projects and mentoring junior landscape architects.
You will be responsible for pursuing, planning, organizing, and supervising projects, with independent judgment in analyzing all technical aspects of projects. Responsibilities also include client development, proposal writing, contract management, and recommending landscape architectural design solutions.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages, plans, develops, organizes, and implements project design concepts and criteria throughout all phases of project work, from planning and design development to construction documentation and administration.
- Leads a team in developing aesthetically pleasing and functional site designs from concept to construction for a variety of public and private projects, including streetscapes, parks, plazas, public spaces, academic buildings, residential communities, and mixed-use developments.
- Takes on project leadership managing all service lines and project types, including coastal resiliency, land development, transportation, institutional, and park work.
- Collaborates with Leadership to develop and implement a strategic vision for the Planning and Design Practice. Identifies and executes initiatives that contribute to the annual business cycle.
- Provides oversight, direction, management, mentoring, and ongoing communication to team members; supervises junior staff and coordinates their work.
- Works with Planning and Design leadership to recruit, develop, and retain talent, fostering a progressive and collaborative team culture.
- Establishes and monitors project budgets, assesses profitability, ensures technical accuracy, and manages adherence to schedules.
- Researches complex problem areas and develops creative design solutions with broad impacts across major projects.
- Leads project scoping studies and alternatives analysis.
- Conducts project reviews and quality control audits; modifies plans as needed to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Acts as a liaison within and outside of the firm, representing the company in client meetings, regulatory discussions, and public engagement forums.
- Responsible for nurturing client relationships, increasing visibility, and contributing to business development efforts.
- Participates in proposal development and presentation efforts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5–10+ years of professional experience in landscape architecture with a track record of increasing responsibilities and project leadership
- Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture (BLA)
- Licensed Landscape Architect (CLARB Preferred)
- Demonstrated experience leading junior staff and managing diverse projects from design through construction
- Experience with a variety of project types, especially in coastal, transportation, land development, institutional, and/or park settings
- Strong communication, design, and technical skills

The base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $125,000 for Virginia. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
