Landscape/Irrigation Technician
 
The Landscape/Irrigation Technician is a full-time position supervised directly by the Landscape Supervisor. The Technician is responsible for maintaining the appearance, health, safety, and functionality of Berkeley’s 84-acre campus landscapes through mowing, trimming, planting, irrigation maintenance, debris removal, and related groundskeeping activities. Duties include scheduled maintenance, project work, minor landscape and irrigation installations, and support for campus operations as needed.
 
The Landscape Technician should have at least one (1) year of experience in a landscape maintenance, groundskeeping, or irrigation maintenance, preferably in an institutional , commercial, or educational environment. Experience troubleshooting and repairing irrigation systems is preferred. . A positive attitude, strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to teamwork are essential.
 
Performance of job duties may require driving a Berkeley-owned vehicle. If so, a current Florida driver’s license is required as well as acceptance by Berkeley Preparatory School’s automobile insurance company. Normal duties can be included but are not limited to the following list of essential duties and responsibilities.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Maintain campus grounds through mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, mulching, weeding, and debris removal.
  • Police campus grounds daily for litter, safety hazards, and landscape deficiencies.
  • Operate landscape maintenance equipment safely, including mowers, line trimmers, blowers, pressure washers, and other related tools and equipment.
  • Maintain planting beds, turf areas, shrubs, and trees through proper cultural practices and approved fertilization programs.
  • Apply herbicides and other landscape treatments as directed and in accordance with applicable regulations and safety standards.
  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation systems, including sprinkler heads, valves, controllers, piping, and related components.
  • Adjust irrigation schedules and controller settings based on seasonal conditions, weather patterns, and landscape requirements.
  • Monitor irrigation system performance, identify leaks or deficiencies, and perform preventive maintenance to ensure efficient operation and water conservation.
  •  Assist with landscape improvement projects, plant installations, irrigation upgrades, and minor landscape construction activities.
  • Maintain hardscape areas through pressure washing and perform minor asphalt repairs as directed.
  • Respond to emergencies and after-hours calls when assigned to on-call duty.
  • Remain accessible during scheduled work hours via two-way radio or cell phone.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • at least one (1) year of experience in a landscape maintenance, groundskeeping, or irrigation maintenance, preferably
  • Working knowledge of landscape maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of irrigation systems, controllers, valves, sprinkler components, and basic irrigation repair techniques preferred.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, landscape plans, and irrigation layouts preferred.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with salary and full benefits. The compensation package will be very competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, degree attainment, and the national independent school and college markets.
