Position Summary: The Landscape & Maintenance Manager will lead the daily operations of landscape and facilities maintenance teams across multiple Catholic Cemeteries locations throughout Northeast Ohio. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this working manager position requires strong leadership skills, operational expertise, and a willingness to actively participate alongside crews in the field.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring Catholic Cemeteries properties are maintained with excellence, safety, dignity, and respect in support of the organization’s mission of serving families and preserving sacred spaces.
The ideal candidate is a servant leader with exceptional organizational skills, a commitment to operational excellence, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining the beauty and integrity of Catholic cemetery properties.
 
Compensation Data: Exempt: $90,000 - $110,000; based on direct relevant experience
 
Travel: Ability to travel to different cemeteries throughout Northeast Ohio daily.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and accountability for the Landscape and Maintenance Departments.
  2. Supervise, schedule, and develop landscape and maintenance crews across multiple cemetery locations.
  3. Work alongside employees as needed to complete landscaping, groundskeeping, maintenance, and improvement projects.
  4. Plan, prioritize, and oversee daily, weekly, and seasonal work schedules.
  5. Ensure cemetery grounds, buildings, roads, equipment, and facilities are maintained to the highest standards.
  6. Conduct regular inspections to ensure quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
  7. Coordinate preventive maintenance programs for buildings, equipment, vehicles, irrigation systems, and cemetery infrastructure.
  8. Manage snow removal, seasonal cleanup, mowing, pruning, planting, irrigation, hardscape maintenance, and general property upkeep.
  9. Manage and monitor departmental budgets, labor costs, equipment utilization, inventory levels, and operational expenses.
  10. Evaluate and recommend capital improvements, equipment purchases, and operational efficiencies to support long-term operational goals.
  11. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental standards, and company safety policies.
  12. Train employees on equipment operation, safety procedures, and quality expectations.
  13. Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.
  14. Coordinate with cemetery managers, contractors, vendors, and internal departments to ensure operational excellence.
  15. Respond to urgent maintenance needs and weather-related events as required.
 
What You Will Need to Succeed:
Education & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in: Landscape Management, Horticulture, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in commercial landscaping, grounds management, facilities maintenance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience leading landscape, maintenance, or operations teams.  Experience managing direct reports, assigning work responsibilities, conducting performance feedback, and developing team members.
  • Proven experience managing multi-site operations, multiple crews, and complex maintenance schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop employees while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and performance.
  • Experience with workforce scheduling, budgeting, inventory management, and operational planning.
  • Knowledge of cemetery operations, grounds management, or memorial property care is preferred.
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certification required; additional safety certifications preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft 365; experience with CAD programs or maintenance management software preferred.
  • Current, valid driver’s license required.
  • Current, valid Ohio Commercial Pesticide Applicator/Spray License required.
  • Clean driving record and ability to meet company insurance requirements.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
  • Ability to work outdoors throughout the year in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and other seasonal conditions.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, reach, and perform physical tasks associated with landscape and maintenance operations.
  • Must be able to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with the ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to actively participate in hands-on landscape, grounds, and maintenance activities alongside department crews.
  • Ability to operate, train employees on, and safely supervise the use of commercial landscape and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to inspect and walk large cemetery properties and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Ability to sit and drive for extended periods while traveling daily between Catholic Cemeteries locations throughout Northeast Ohio.
