Description

Position Title: Landscape Maintenance Worker

Rate of Pay: $20.00 per hour

Position Purpose:

Assists with a variety of skilled landscape maintenance activities. This is a temporary seasonal position, not to exceed 122 days, that will be scheduled full-time hours.

Schedule: Wednesday-Sunday 7:00am to 3:30pm

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in maintenance activities of fairground's landscape.
  • Provides assistance to landscape staff with needed repairs when assigned.
  • Performs a variety of landscaping duties including mowing lawns, weeding, pruning, and general plant care throughout the fairgrounds.
  • Turf grass repair, watering, seeding, edging, and mowing.
  • Assists with debris removal from planters, lawns, shrubs, and walkways.
  • Assists in irrigation repair, tree planting, fertilizing, and tool maintenance and repair.
  • Operates landscape machinery such as ride-on mower, push mower, string line trimmer and leaf blower.
  • May participate in janitorial and custodial duties including cleaning buildings and facilities, cleaning and restocking restrooms, emptying trash, and cleaning guest tables and eating areas.
  • Loads and unloads supplies throughout the facilities.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Previous landscape experience, knowledge of landscape equipment care and maintenance.
  • Experience with general plant care.
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of landscape tools and machinery.
  • Good customer service skills and the ability to work well with others a must. Ability to work outside the normal business day/week schedule as demanded by events and programs.
  • Must be available to work 5 days per week, on any shift.

Preferences:

  • Experience in safely operating heavy equipment such as forklift, man-lift, scissors lift, Bobcat (skid steer tractor) and/or skip loader highly preferred.
  • Previous janitorial or custodial experience preferred.
  • Possess a valid California driver's license to operate a utility cart and other equipment.
  • Familiarity with the layout and facilities of the OC Fair & Event Center preferred.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, using proper bending and lifting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Will work in a fast-paced, indoor and outdoor environment in all types of weather.
