Maintenance Worker II – Grounds

The Maintenance Worker II – Grounds is a position in the Facilities Management department. The position's work is focused on groundskeeping and the caregiver may be assigned to work in a variety of areas of focus. The Maintenance Worker II – Groundsmay also have opportunities to learn general building maintenance skills in a healthcare setting.

Schedule: Monday- Friday 7am-3:30pm with on-call rotating shifts every 3rd week starting October - May for snow removal

Essential Functions

Responsible for maintaining the appearance, condition, and safety of facility grounds, landscaping, parking areas, irrigation systems, and related equipment to meet seasonal needs.

  • Assignments may include planting, fertilizing, clipping, pruning, mowing, blowing, weeding, shoveling snow, plowing, irrigation monitoring, and applying chemical control products.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in landscape maintenance, including irrigation systems, and the use of insecticides and herbicides on turf, trees, and flowerbeds.

Required Qualifications
  • Some experience in groundskeeping or landscape maintenance.
  • Demonstrated abilities of the skills listed above.
  • Willingness to work hard and to learn.
  • A valid driver's license may be required for this position.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment by following established safety procedures and protocols.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions.
Physical Requirements
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
  • Bending, lifting, stooping, crawling, laying, sitting, walking, climbing.
  • Use of hand and power tools, proper use of hearing and eye protection.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures in nature, work in noisy or constricted spaces, exposure to odors and smells.
