Landscape Technician II

This position is designated as safety-sensitive. As such, a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening are mandatory. The incumbent will also be subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout the duration of employment.

Performs manual labor associated with the maintenance and upkeep of Alta Vista Cemetery. Performs a variety of tasks including: mowing grass; operating string trimmer; edger; chain saw; and other associated duties.

Job Duties

Cuts grass by operating a riding lawn mower, power push mower and weed eater.

Performs or assist with any of the following: trims hedges; rakes leaves; plants grass; cuts down dead trees; clears storm drains; edges sidewalks; plants shrubs; and collects trash and litter.

Operates a variety of both gas-powered and hand tools to maintain cemetery grounds. Tools include: blower; aerator; stand-on sprayer/spreaders; shovel; mattock; pry bar; rake.

Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs of equipment.

Adjusts upright markers and flat markers as needed.

Performs other related duties as required.

Employee subject to recall to duty in cases of emergency.

May be required to work overtime for non-emergency situations

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. desirable.

Ability to read and write.

One year of experience as a Landscape Technician I or equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities required.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to operate a zero-turn mower or right of way tractor.

Knowledge of department operations and procedures.

Skill in operating hand and power tools and small equipment used by department.

Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds.

Knowledge of mechanical repairs.

Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques and practices.

Skill in operating machinery and using assorted hand tools.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Supplemental Information:

The incumbent can qualify for automatic promotion to Landscape Technician III if the following conditions are met:

  • One year as Landscape Technician II and/or
  • Ability to meet the Cemetery Landscape Technician III job specifications
  • Managers recommendation

A 5% increase shall be given to employee who obtains a Class A or B CDL license.
