    Job Description

    Position Summary

The Lane Manager owns one modular production lane end to end — from the first station to final QC and load-out. This role is the single accountable owner for that lane's safety, takt adherence, quality, labor productivity, and on-time module delivery. Where the Shop Manager owns the steel discipline across the facility, the Lane Manager owns the flow of a specific product line through it. This is a production leadership role built around takt time, standard work, and relentless bottleneck removal.

    Key Responsibilities

    Takt & Throughput

    • Own the lane's takt time. Balance work content across stations so every station finishes within takt, every cycle.

    • Run the daily production board: modules released, cycle time by station, hours per module, variance to plan.

    • Identify constraints — labor, material, tooling, drawing, or upstream trade — and clear or escalate them the same day.

    • Manage station loading, crew assignment, and shift/overtime decisions within the lane's labor budget.

    Quality

    • Own first-time-through quality for the lane. Build in-station quality checks so defects are caught at the station that created them.

    • Enforce work instructions, torque and test requirements, weld quality, hydro/pressure testing, cleanliness, and labeling standards.

    • Own release readiness: coordinate QC hold points and final module inspection, with verification and sign-off performed by QA/QC personnel; compile and submit turnover documentation.

    • Drive rework to root cause and close the loop with engineering and detailing.

    Safety

    • Own safety within the lane. Lead daily huddles, pre-task planning, and JHAs; enforce PPE, LOTO, hot work, and rigging requirements.

    • Partner with the Safety Manager to engineer hazards out of station design and material handling.

    People

    • Lead, train, and develop the lane crew. Cross-train across stations to build flexibility and cover absence without losing takt.

    • Set daily expectations, give direct feedback, and handle performance issues with HR support.

    • Develop station leads into the next generation of lane leadership

    Materials & Kitting

    • Ensure every station is kitted ahead of need — no station stops for parts.

    • Coordinate with purchasing, warehouse, and vendors on material timing, shortages, and substitutions.

    • Manage lane-level WIP, staging footprint, and load-out sequencing to the delivery schedule.

    Continuous Improvement

    • Own standard work for every station in the lane; update it when the method changes.

    • Run 5S, visual management, and kaizen activity within the lane; develop fixtures, jigs, and setup reductions.

    • Feed buildability and DFMA lessons back to OSM Engineering so the next release is easier to build than the last.

    Required Qualifications

    • Minimum 5 years in construction, manufacturing, fabrication, or modular construction production, with at least 2–3 years leading a crew, line, cell, or department.

    • Demonstrated experience running production to a schedule and to budgeted labor hours.

    • Practical understanding of mechanical assembly and/or structural fabrication — piping, welding, equipment setting, or steel fitting.

    • Ability to read shop drawings, spool drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.

    • Working knowledge of lean production concepts: takt, standard work, WIP control, visual management, root-cause problem solving.

    • Proficiency with production tracking, ERP, and scheduling tools; comfortable with data and daily metrics.

    • OSHA 30 (or ability to obtain within 90 days).

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Off-site/modular construction or skid fabrication experience supporting MEP scopes.

    • Mission-critical or data center module production experience.

    • Experience with Vista by Viewpoint, Smartsheet, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or comparable platforms.

    • Mechanical or plumbing trade license, or CWI/CWS credential.

    • Bilingual English/Spanish.

    Competencies

    • Owns the number. Doesn't explain the miss — prevents it, or flags it early enough to fix.

    • Flow thinking. Sees the whole lane, not just the station in front of them.

    • Calm under compression. Delivery dates slide upstream; the lane doesn't panic.

    • Develops the crew. Measured partly by who gets promoted out of the lane.

    • Standard work discipline. Improves the method and then makes the improvement stick.

    Physical & Work Environment

Active fabrication shop. Extended standing and walking, climbing ladders and stairs, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Exposure to welding operations, noise, fumes, and moving equipment. Full PPE required. Occasional travel to project sites for set support and field feedback.
