We are seeking Lao Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Lao is a rare Southeast Asian language frequently needed for asylum, refugee, and immigration proceedings.
Responsibilities
Provide real-time Lao English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
Interpret accurately and impartially in immigration, legal, and administrative contexts.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge calls.
Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance reviews.
Qualifications
Native or near-native fluency in Lao and English.
2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, community, or government preferred).
Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.
Strong telephone communication skills; ability to remain accurate under pressure.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
