Shape massive parts with micron-level precision
MAU is partnering with a world-class manufacturer to hire a Large-Diameter CNC Lathe Machinist in Pooler, GA for a temp-to-hire role. You’ll complete an initial training period on first shift and then transition to the second shift (4:00 PM – 2:30 AM) to produce tight-tolerance components for gas turbine applications.
A day in the life
You arrive for second shift and take over a large CNC lathe—rated between 110–220 tons. With a complex print in hand, you review GD&T, select tooling and fixturing, and set your strategy for machining an oversized forging. As the cycle runs, you tune cutting parameters to improve tool life and cycle time, verify critical features with precision instruments, and collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to deliver a first-time-right part. Before clocking out, you document results, tidy the work area, and hand off smoothly to the next operator.
What you will do
- Independently set up and operate large CNC lathes (110–220 tons).
- Machine large gas turbine components to stringent dimensional and geometric tolerances.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T.
- Select tooling, fixtures, and machining approaches for large forgings and castings.
- Optimize feeds, speeds, and processes for quality, throughput, and tool life.
- Perform in-process and final inspections using precision metrology tools.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process issues with minimal supervision.
- Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to ensure first-pass yield.
- Maintain rigorous safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
What you bring
- 5–7+ years of CNC machining in heavy industrial manufacturing.
- Deep experience running large lathes and holding tight tolerances on oversized parts.
- Advanced blueprint literacy with strong GD&T interpretation.
- Proficient problem-solver who can work independently and take ownership.
- Willing to work second shift after an initial 3–6 months of first-shift training.
- Core competencies: action orientation, change advocacy, customer focus, continuous development, and accountability.
Preferred experience
- Machining alloy steels, carbon steels, stainless steels, and large forgings.
Schedule & location
- Second shift: 4:00 PM – 2:30 AM (post-training).
- Initial training on first shift for 3–6 months.
- On-site manufacturing environment in Savannah, GA; role supports client operations in Pooler, GA.
Why join through MAU
- Temp-to-hire with a clear path to direct placement.
- Relocation assistance available if needed.
- Career progression and advancement opportunities.
