Metals USA has an immediate opening for a Laser Operator Trainee -- 3rd Shift in the Tulsa, OK facility. The Laser Trainee performs advanced production activities requiring a demonstrated high level of skill and proficiency in material handling, production processes and multiple machine operation acquired through extended experience and training.



  • Chooses correct material for the burning job according to work order.

  • Sets up machine track, selects proper burning tip, sets gas flow and machine feed rates.

  • Positions work pieces for processing (may operate a combination of different machines)

  • Uses gauges, calipers, squares or rulers for measurement.

  • Determines processing specifications such as materials, burning tips, location of cutting lines, dimensions, tolerances and operational sequences.

  • Reviews blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications

  • Sets up and aligns specified material or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, shims or hand tools.

  • Adjusts controls to set depth and feed rates.

  • Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections

  • Diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments and removes scrap from machine.

  • Coordinates and executes material handling to be processed including operation of overhead crane.

  • Completes work order paperwork/documentation.

  • Restocks material.

  • May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing.

  • May mark material after processing; store material for additional processing and/or shipping.

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Minimum 18 years of age

  • Reading and writing comprehension in English (to read work order instructions, safety, and policy manuals)

  • Measuring skills to read English & Metric systems and a tape measure, caliper, gauges, or micrometer

  • Must have mechanical aptitude and arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions

  • Experience operating an overhead crane / forklift operator

  • Must be proficient in the use of hand tools including grinder

  • Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination

  • Computer Literacy; Microsoft Products, CAD Programming and ERP

  • Must be organized with attention to detail

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen



Physical Demands:


Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day)



  • Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend

  • Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistance


Other Physical Requirements:



  • Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Steel-toed boots or metatarsal boots

  • Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse

  • Protective eyewear

  • Hand protection

  • Arm guards/sleeves

  • Hearing protection if required by the hearing conservation program
