The Laundry Attendant is responsible for ensuring a continuous supply of clean, high-quality linen and terry for the hotel's guests and operations. This role involves the safe and efficient handling, washing, drying, folding, and storage of all hotel linens, including sheets, towels, and cleaning rags.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Processing Laundry:
- Sort and separate all soiled linens according to type, color, and degree of soil before washing.
- Load and operate commercial washing and drying equipment, adhering to established procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
- Monitor wash cycles and promptly transfer laundry to the dryers upon completion.
- Add appropriate chemicals (detergents, bleaches, softeners) in correct measurements.
Finishing and Distribution:
- Fold, stack, and count clean linens neatly and accurately, inspecting each item for stains or damage.
- Place damaged or stained items in the designated area for re-washing or disposal.
- Prepare linen carts and transport supplies to designated storage areas on guest floors and food & beverage outlets.
Equipment and Inventory:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area, including the laundry room, equipment, and storage shelves.
- Regularly clean lint filters and check equipment for proper functioning, reporting any maintenance issues immediately.
- Keep accurate records of linen inventory and report low stock levels to the manager.
Safety and Standards:
- Adhere to all hotel safety and security policies, especially when operating heavy machinery and handling chemicals.
- Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and linen quality.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a commercial or hotel laundry environment is a plus, but not always required (on-the-job training provided).
Skills:
- Ability to read, write, and understand basic instructions in English.
- Strong attention to detail for sorting and inspecting linens.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet production deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (full shift).
- Ability to lift, push, and pull carts and bags weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach to load and unload machines and shelves.
- Comfortable working in a warm, sometimes humid, environment.
