Position Description
General Overview
Under general supervision, operates laundry equipment in county jail facilities; collects, washes, dries, sorts and distributes clean laundry to inmates and booking department; functionally supervises three (3) trustees in operations of laundry equipment; maintains inventory of laundry materials. Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below. Completion of ninth (9th) grade education, or equivalent combinations of training and/or experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of jail procedures; commercial laundry equipment operation. Basic knowledge of department policies and procedures; supervision; inventory control. Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action; read simple sentences with common knowledge; work alone on most tasks; read, copy and record figures accurately; sort items into categories according to established methods. Job Duties
The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification. Collects dirty laundry from designated drop-off stations; operates commercial/industrial washing machines and dryers to launder and dry all jail laundry (e.g., wash cloths, towels, uniforms, bedding, etc.); washes and distributes miscellaneous laundry for jail maintenance and custodial staff. Folds, stacks and distributes clean laundry to jail inmates and booking department. Picks up and returns jail trustees to dormitory; supervises trustees in the performance of laundry duties. Maintains daily inventory of supplies used (e.g., wash cloths, towels, uniforms, bedding, soap, bleach, etc.).
