Starting Rate-$38.77
Location: Washington, DC
Worksite: Department of Justice, 175 N Street NE, Washington, DC 20002
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM | 40 hours per week
Clearance: Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required

Position Overview

We are seeking a Law Clerk I to support the RECA Team in Washington, DC. This position works in a fast-paced, diverse legal environment and provides research, writing, document review, and litigation support to attorneys and program staff.

The Law Clerk will work under the direction of a Project Supervisor or Project Manager and will assist with complex legal matters, including the preparation of legal documents and program decisions that may serve as the foundation for subsequent administrative or judicial review.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct complex legal research in support of attorneys and trial staff.

  • Research applicable statutory, regulatory, and case law.

  • Draft and assist with legal documents, including motions, briefs, memoranda of law, and related materials.

  • Assist with drafting program decisions involving claims and administrative matters.

  • Review documents for relevance, responsiveness, and privilege.

  • Analyze complex fact patterns and identify relevant legal issues.

  • Assist attorneys throughout all phases of litigation.

  • Support document review, case management, and electronic discovery activities.

  • Perform additional Law Clerk responsibilities as required by the contract and project.

Basic Qualifications

  • Law degree or current enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed.

  • Equivalent legal training, professional experience, or education may be considered.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.

  • Working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.

  • Proficiency with legal research platforms such as LexisNexis and Westlaw.

  • Experience with computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, document review systems, file management systems, and imaging applications.

  • Familiarity with ESI tools, eDiscovery procedures, and electronic document review.

  • Ability to analyze complex factual and legal issues.

  • Ability to consistently produce high-quality work in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a government and/or litigation support environment.

  • Experience with Relativity.

  • Trial or litigation experience.

  • Experience with, or an interest in, informal administrative adjudications under agency statutes and regulations.

  • Experience managing or reviewing a high volume of cases or claims.

  • Current or active security clearance is a plus.

Writing Sample Requirement

Candidates must provide a legal writing sample for client review that meets the following requirements:

  • Must be a legal document, such as a brief or legal memorandum; form letters will not be accepted.

  • Maximum length of 2–3 pages.

  • Must be free of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors.

  • Must not contain personally identifiable information (PII).

  • Real or fictitious names should be replaced rather than redacted using generic names such as John Doe, Jane Doe, ABC Company, or XYZ Company.

Assignment Details

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, excluding federal holidays unless otherwise specified.

Overtime/Travel: Overtime and travel may be required as needed with appropriate authorization.

Location: Department of Justice, 175 N Street NE, Washington, DC 20002.

Assignment Term: Position begins upon completion of the required clearance or issuance of an approved waiver. The contract includes an option period through May 31, 2027.

There may be potential for placement or transfer to the client organization after six months, based on business needs and applicable requirements.
