Law Clerk II - San Diego, CA
Duration: 12 months, Onsite
Day-to-day Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with attorneys to determine applicable laws and identify possible defenses or violations.
- Stay updated on federal, state, or local laws, and new criminal and civil rules.
- Alert attorneys to potential issues while reviewing and analyzing case file data.
- Manage habeas corpus and immigration habeas matters, including drafting and filing responses.
- Analyze statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedents, and agency rules for complex cases.
- Draft correspondence and legal documents for attorney review.
- Prepare proposed orders for judges and magistrates.
Required Skills:
- Minimum two years of experience in litigation support or related projects.
- Knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and resources.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in legal research tools like LEXIS and Westlaw.
- Familiarity with computer applications including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and imaging.
- Knowledge of Client tools and eDiscovery procedures.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in providing legal support for criminal and civil cases.
Education: JD REQUIRED
