PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of this job is to assist the Workers Compensation legal department by providing technical support to attorneys, conducting legal research and drafting legal documents. This role will work under the supervision of assigned attorneys to assist in court and trial related research.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs analysis and research functions for Workers' Compensation cases.

• Drafts legal memos and briefs.
• Prepares motions and petitions as well as opposition/response to same.
• Analyzes and researches legal and factual issues.
• Secures documentation from employers and third parties to support litigation analysis.
• Develops templates involving legal motions and petitions.
• Assists in deposition and trial preparation and supports legal team throughout the entire litigation process.
• Researches and analyzes law sources to prepare draft memoranda, briefs or arguments for review, approval and use by attorneys.
• Communicate with clients, court staff, and law firms by telephone and written correspondence.
• May attend depositions, mediations, court hearings, and trials.
• Tracks and records time through litigation management system.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role does not have supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree required. Currently attending an accredited law school with 2 semesters/3 quarters completed with passing grades. Legal or insurance experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

None required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Interest in learning CA workers compensation litigation. Proficient use of a personal computer and skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, PowerPoint, EAMS, and litigation management systems. Knowledge and use of general office equipment such as scanners and copiers. Familiarity with business legal principles. Demonstrated experience working independently under minimal supervision, maintaining a strong work ethic, and exercising initiative. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to read and understand legal materials. Ability to keep information organized and confidential. Ability to effectively present information, verbally and in writing, including English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. Strong organizational abilities, time management, and aptitude for learning new skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and complete timely. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Office environment - no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands and employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in an office and court environment and requires frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier, scanner, and other standard office equipment.

The current range for this position is

$29.80 - $46.99

This range is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at ICW Group, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors unique to each candidate, including experience, education and the location of the role and considers employees performing substantially similar work.
