Duties Description The New York City office of the Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct (CPC) is seeking Law Interns for the Fall 26- Spring 27 term. Under the supervision of a CPC attorney, the Law Student Intern will perform a variety of law-related tasks in support of the CPC's mission. The intern will hone research and writing skills; strengthen professional communication skills; participate in the preparation of gathering, analyzing and reporting evidence; and improve networking skills.

Duties and responsibilities of the intern will include, but will not limited to:

  • Review complaints and draft preliminary reports;
  • Review and organize complaint materials;
  • Conduct legal research related to the conduct of prosecutors;
  • Work closely with the attorneys and Deputy Director of Investigations, assisting on investigations;
  • Provide support to attorneys in drafting reports and memoranda;
  • Assist with administrative or clerical tasks;
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for depositions; and
  • Other related duties as needed to enable the CPC to carry out its statutory mandate.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship and be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be actively enrolled in a New York State accredited law school, or be a resident of New York State, attending an accredited law school, college, university outside of New York State.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • An interest in criminal law and/or the role of the prosecutor;
  • Excellent legal research, analysis and writing skills;
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take initiative;
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality with sensitive matters;
  • Problem-solving and resourcefulness skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and be detail-oriented;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; and
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Additional Comments The Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct is an independent State agency dedicated to investigating prosecutorial conduct in New York State, serving to strengthen oversight of New York's prosecutors and to hold them to the highest ethical standards in the exercise of their duties.

Pursuant to Judiciary Law §§ 499-a - 499-j, the Commission has the authority to review and investigate the conduct of prosecutors to determine whether any prosecutorial conduct violates state law or court rules. Under the statute, the Commission is authorized to conduct a full range of investigative functions, including holding hearings, subpoenaing witnesses, requiring production of documents, conferring immunity, and transmitting findings of fact and recommendations regarding sanctions to the relevant attorney grievance committee. The Commission is also authorized to make its findings and recommendations public.
