Job Summary
The Lead Agilist III supports one or more Agile Squads by promoting Agile and Scrum principles, servant leadership, continuous improvement, and delivery of business value. This role coaches Product Owners and Development Teams, facilitates Scrum events, removes impediments, and helps teams become increasingly self-organizing, collaborative, and high performing.
The Lead Agilist III uses observation, coaching, facilitation, data, and effective questioning to identify team needs and guide problem solving. The role also partners across the organization to address dependencies, resolve obstacles, strengthen Agile practices, and promote a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Lead Agilist III operates within established policies and risk requirements while supporting a positive customer and colleague experience.
Key Responsibilities
Coach Agile Squads, Product Owners, and team members in Agile principles, Scrum practices, self-organization, and continuous improvement.
Facilitate Scrum events, including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Retrospectives, and Backlog Refinement, ensuring each provides meaningful value.
Promote high-performing, cross-functional teams through coaching, mentoring, collaboration, and effective team dynamics.
Help teams identify and resolve impediments, including organizational, cultural, logistical, dependency, and coordination challenges; escalate issues when appropriate.
Coach Product Owners and Development Teams on effective Product Backlog management, priorities, outcomes, and clear definitions of success.
Foster environments where team members can openly raise concerns, resolve conflicts, exchange ideas, and solve problems collaboratively.
Use empirical data, feedback loops, metrics, and other information radiators to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement.
Encourage effective engineering and delivery practices, including Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), automated testing, Test-Driven Development, and related DevOps practices.
Apply relevant practices from other Agile frameworks and ways of working, including Kanban, Scrumban, XP, and Mob Programming, when beneficial to the Squad.
Facilitate communication, cooperation, and collaboration within and across Agile Squads and organizational teams.
Protect Squad focus and productivity by helping manage external requests, interruptions, dependencies, and competing priorities.
Promote innovative thinking, learning, self-improvement, and professional growth across the Squad and organization.
Provide objective guidance and lead by example through a servant-leadership approach.
Identify, assess, manage, monitor, and communicate risks while operating within the organization's risk appetite and established policies and procedures.
Support actions and behaviors that promote a positive customer and colleague experience.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of full-time business experience.
3+ years of Scrum experience.
Strong knowledge of the Scrum Framework and Agile principles.
Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, teaching, and facilitating teams and organizational stakeholders.
Experience identifying and removing or escalating team and organizational impediments.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts and facilitate difficult discussions.
Strong conflict-resolution, mediation, listening, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build trust, rapport, psychological safety, and collaborative team environments.
Strong critical and creative problem-solving abilities.
Experience using empirical data, team metrics, and feedback to support continuous improvement.
Understanding of software development lifecycle disciplines, including requirements, analysis and design, quality assurance/testing, implementation, deployment, and change/configuration management.
Working knowledge of Agile and DevOps practices such as CI/CD, automated testing, and Test-Driven Development.
Working knowledge of additional Agile frameworks and practices such as Kanban, Scrumban, or XP.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
