Pay Range: $65-$74

Location: Onsite (Farmington Hills, MI)

Length: 6 months

Position Summary

The Lead Agile Coach / Scrum Master is responsible for guiding one or more Agile teams in the effective adoption and application of Agile values, principles, and Scrum practices. This role serves as a servant leader, coach, facilitator, and mentor, helping teams improve collaboration, self-organization, continuous improvement, and delivery of business value.

The Lead Agile Coach works closely with Product Owners, development teams, and stakeholders to foster high-performing teams and create an environment that encourages transparency, accountability, innovation, and continuous learning. This individual uses coaching, facilitation, and observation skills to identify opportunities for improvement and support teams in overcoming challenges while maintaining an objective and neutral perspective.

Key Responsibilities

Agile Coaching & Team Development

  • Coach and support Agile teams in the adoption and application of Agile values, principles, and Scrum practices.
  • Foster self-organization, cross-functional collaboration, continuous improvement, and team accountability.
  • Guide teams in identifying and resolving impediments while encouraging ownership of solutions.
  • Promote a culture of learning, experimentation, and adaptability.
  • Mentor team members and stakeholders on Agile practices, mindset shifts, and organizational impacts.

Scrum Facilitation

  • Facilitate Scrum ceremonies and related Agile activities, including:

  • Sprint Planning

  • Daily Scrum

  • Sprint Review

  • Sprint Retrospective

  • Backlog Refinement

  • Ensure Agile events are productive and provide measurable value to the team and organization.

  • Help teams inspect and adapt through the effective use of feedback loops, metrics, and performance indicators.

Product & Delivery Support

  • Partner with Product Owners and delivery teams to improve Product Backlog management and prioritization.
  • Establish a shared understanding of objectives, requirements, success criteria, and business value.
  • Support effective planning, estimation, dependency management, and risk identification.
  • Encourage practices that improve quality, delivery effectiveness, and software craftsmanship.

Organizational Leadership

  • Facilitate communication, collaboration, and alignment across teams and stakeholders.
  • Provide objective guidance and coaching without political or personal bias.
  • Help create and maintain a safe environment where concerns, risks, and challenges can be openly discussed.
  • Advocate for Agile principles and support organizational transformation initiatives.
  • Escalate team impediments when necessary to appropriate organizational leaders or support functions.

Continuous Improvement & Agile Maturity

  • Leverage metrics, observations, and team feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Apply knowledge of Agile frameworks and complementary methodologies such as Kanban, Scrumban, Extreme Programming (XP), and related practices.
  • Support adoption of modern engineering and DevOps practices, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, test automation, and related techniques.
  • Encourage data-driven decision-making and continuous process optimization.

Risk & Compliance

  • Promote proactive identification, discussion, and management of risks and dependencies.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and governance requirements.
  • Support a customer-focused approach by helping teams align delivery outcomes with business and user needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of professional business experience.
  • 3+ years of Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or related Agile delivery experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience facilitating, teaching, mentoring, and presenting to audiences at multiple organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and removing team impediments and organizational barriers.
  • Strong coaching, facilitation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to build trust, influence without authority, and foster team engagement.
  • Experience leading teams through change and continuous improvement initiatives.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

  • Deep understanding of Scrum principles, events, roles, and artifacts.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile values and frameworks.
  • Experience building and supporting high-performing Agile teams.
  • Ability to leverage empirical data and metrics to drive improvements.

  • Working knowledge of Agile engineering and DevOps practices, including:

  • Continuous Integration (CI)

  • Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CD)

  • Test-Driven Development (TDD)

  • Automated Testing

  • Familiarity with Kanban, Scrumban, XP, Mob Programming, and other Agile approaches.
